WHITESBURG (09/22/24) – Residents of the eastern Kentucky community of Whitesburg are still looking for answers as to why the county sheriff there would shoot and kill a District Court Judge. Letcher County Sheriff Mickey Stines is scheduled for video arraignment on Wednesday in the shooting death of Kevin Mullins last Thursday in the judge’s chambers of the county courthouse. Police have not offered any details about a possible motive, and an arrest citation from Kentucky State Police gives few details about the shooting, except to say that Stines fired multiple times at Mullins, then walked out to surrender to police. A memorial service for Mullins was held back on Sunday.
