ELIZABETHTOWN (05/12/26) — A Hardin County teenager charged in the fatal shooting of another juvenile in an Elizabethtown parking lot earlier this year will be tried as an adult.

15-year-old Chasity Nettles was indicted on a charge of murder in the January 10th shooting death of 15-year-old Katen Atwell.

Nettles, Atwell and 21-year-old Bryan Harbeson of McDaniels were sitting in his car outside the Lowe’s store when Nettles allegedly found a gun and shot Atwell, who died later at Baptist Health Hardin.

Harbinson told officers in the investigation that he met the girls through Snapchat, thinking they were 18. He was later charged with wanton endangerment and unlawful transaction with a minor.

A not guilty was entered on Nettles’ behalf during a recent hearing; she’s due back in court in July.
