BOWLING GREEN (04/24/26) — A Western Kentucky University student from Breckinridge County has been named a Truman Scholar.

Junior Caden Lucas of Harned is only the second Western student to ever receive the honor.

According to the Bowling Green’s Office of Scholar Development, the award includes a $30,000 scholarship for graduate or professional school as well as professional enrichment and mentoring opportunities.

Lucas was among 55 students nationwide to be selected out of nearly 800 candidates and nearly 200 finalists.

The Truman Scholarship was established by Congress in 1975 as the living memorial of President Harry S. Truman and a national monument to public service.
