4/6/2026—The Irvington City Council heard the first reading of four ordinances at their regular meeting Monday evening.

 

The first ordinance annexes 80.47 acres on the north side of US 60 into city limits.  This is the site of the proposed Industrial Park.

 

The second ordinance establishes regulations for solicitors and solicitation.

 

The third ordinance amends the existing ordinance establishing a non-exclusive franchise and fee on towing services.

 

The fourth ordinance repeals nuisance ordinances established prior to 2009 and replaces and combines all other nuisance ordinances.

 

In other business, the Council approved a motion to seek bids on the Fire Department brush truck.  The Department made 11 runs in March.

 

The Council approved a motion to seek bids to pave city streets.

 

The Council approved a new business license for the Breckinridge County Board of Education.

 

Jay Embry asked the Council to consider renaming Kentucky Street to Lucas Street, in honor of Charles(“Mugsy”) and Edna Lucas.  The Council will research the best way to do this.

 

Misty Metcalfe asked the Council if she could purchase an acre of land the city owns.  The Council approved a motion to move forward with this process.

 

At the beginning of the meeting, Mayor Charles Douglas Lucas told the Council it did not have the power to rescind citations issued by the Code Enforcement Board.  He said the Board had rescinded the citations at a Special Called Meeting in March.  He also said repairs on the cross at Cedar Hill Cemetery were not complete.  He said the work will be redone.

 

The council was informed of several upcoming events.  John Whipple will host a Town Hall Meeting at the Depot on April 17 at 5:00pm EST.  The Fire Department will have a Spring Festival at the school on May 23.  Eva Carman Day is May 30.  A Community Day will be held at Eva Carman Park on June 6.  There will be a fireworks show at Eva Carman Park on June 27.
