
2/18/2026—The Breckinridge County Board of Education approved the USDA Distance Learning and Telemedicine Grant Agreement at a Special Called Meeting Wednesday afternoon. The total amount of the grant is $974,391. The local match is $127,109. The three major pillars of the grant are expanding student STEM access; teacher professional development; and district-wide telemedicine services. The grant will be phased in over a three-year period. The first-year priority is obtaining telemedicine carts.
In other business, Superintendent Dr. Nick Carter said a groundbreaking ceremony for the Middle School construction project will be held March 8 at 2:30pm. The project is scheduled to begin Monday, February 23. Dr. Carter thanked everyone for their work on the project.
The Board approved bids on the Area Technology Center Renovation project. Renovations include roof replacement and upgrading several classrooms. The Board approved a revised BG-1 form on the project. Total funds available are $1,593,634.04. All the money comes from the state, and no local funds will be used.
The Board approved the 2026-2031 Breckinridge County Schools Strategic Learning Plan. Four areas addressed are: Successful and Engaged Students; Skilled and Committed Teams; Parent/Caregiver and Community Partnerships; and Safe and Efficient Operations.
The Board approved the audit for the Fiscal Year ending June 30, 2025. The district’s ending net position increased by $263,062.
The Board approved tentative Site Based Decision Making allocations to school councils. District enrollment for next year is expected to remain the same. The district will add one Special Education position and lose one Certified Staff position.
The Board approved student insurance for next year with Roberts Insurance in the amount of $41,136.19.
Kindergarten and Head Start registration is set for March 16-19.
The Board approved an out-of-attendance area request.
The Board approved three out of state field trips.
Emma Martin presented the Winter District Transition Readiness Report.
The Board approved Elizabeth Cain as Chairperson of the Certified Staff Evaluations Appeals Panel, and Stacey Harness as alternate.
The following retirements were noted: Debbie Webster, Food Service Director effective August 1, 2026, and Patti Davidson, HES Library Media Specialist, effective July 1, 2026.
