2/10/2026—The Hardinsburg City Council approved a motion to purchase a pedestrian crossing sign at their regular meeting Tuesday evening.  The sign will be located on Old Highway 60 by the Hospital.  It is solar powered and the crosswalk on the street will be illuminated at night.  The total cost is $16,836.32.  The city is seeking donations to help pay for the sign.

In other business, the Council approved a resolution to make an application for Law Enforcement Protection Program funds administered by the Kentucky Office of Homeland Security.  The amount of funds is between $23,000 and $33,000.  The money will be used for equipment and ammunition for the Police Department.

Councilman Jerry Dubree asked the Council to consider raising the amount the city receives from the Insurance Premium Tax from 6% to 10%. Currently, all city residents are paying 10%, but 4% goes to the County.  The next step in the process is to amend the current ordinance, which requires two readings to reinstate the full amount to the city.

Veolia Water Project Manager Bret Mingus said he will look in to purchasing a plow and spreader that can be placed on a Fire Department truck.  This will aid in snow removal.

The Police Department received 175 calls for service in January.  They made one felony and four misdemeanor arrests.  They issued five state citations and investigated one theft and four drug and alcohol related offenses.  They worked two injury accidents and six non-injury accidents.  Officer Craig Ball has completed in-service training on evidence room management.  The Department will receive $13,625 from the insurance company on the 2017 Dodge Durango.  Chief Laslie said he is looking for a dog cage for the K-9 unit.

The Fire Department made 19 runs in January.

Austin Weedman said one code enforcement case has been resolved.  He is filing paperwork on property on Fourth Street.

Mayor Wayne Macy thanked all city employees and Fire Department volunteers for their efforts during the snowstorm.  He said potholes will be repaired once the weather dries up.
