(UPDATE, 12/31) — The Ohio County Coroner’s Office has identified the man who was found dead at Green River Baptist Church in Cromwell on Tuesday. Officials say the man was positively identified as 62-year-old Phillip Wayne Morris, of Morgantown. It is believed he stopped at the church during a severe weather event on December 28.The coroner’s office says Morris may have suffered a heart attack caused by his overall health conditions. Morris was originally a native of Ohio County, and the reason for his travels on December 28 are not known. The investigation remains ongoing.

BEAVER DAM (12/29/25) — Authorities in Ohio County are asking for the public’s help to identify a man who was found dead outside a church. The man was found Monday on the porch of Green River Baptist Church in Cromwell. Appearing to be malnourished, he was thought to have been seeking shelter from Monday’s rains and may have died from exposure. Officials say he’s white, believed to be in his 60s with long, blondish, thinning hair. The man was thought to have been seen near the Jones Funeral Home in Morgantown earlier on Monday. Anyone who may have information about the individual’s identity is requested call the Ohio County Coroner’s Office at 270-875-3926.
