Local Education Leaders React To Latest Report Cards Issued This Week

UNDATED (11/18/25) — The Kentucky Department of Education this week released the annual accountability and assessment data for the state’s districts and schools.

State Officials pointed to improved student performance across Kentucky when compared to previous years, particularly in reading and math, with higher rates of proficient and distinguished rankings.

State education officials said this marks the highest performance levels seen in the past four years across elementary, middle and high schools.

In an email to WXBC’s Lee Bramlett, Breckinridge County Superintendent Dr. Nick Carter and Chief Academic Officer Dr. Michael Broadbent praised students, staff, and families for their hard work and growth this year.

“Breckinridge County High School earned a high overall rating, showing growth in every academic area and a very high mark in postsecondary readiness,” the statement read. 

The school’s Postsecondary Readiness rate for the class of 2025 was a 98.3, which was above the state average of 83 and the highest in the region. The Graduation Rate was 96.6, which was above the state average of 94.2 and one of the highest in the region. The Breckinridge County Middle School earned high ratings in Science, Social Studies, and Writing.”

“Across the district, each elementary school demonstrated notable strengths: Ben Johnson Elementary led the district in Social Studies and Writing, Custer Elementary earned the highest rating for School Climate and Safety, Hardinsburg Elementary posted the top Reading and Science scores, and Irvington Elementary showed major gains in Math and high ratings across all content areas.”

Carter wrote the results reflect the district’s commitment to high expectations, strong instruction, and supporting every learner with focus on ensuring all students are prepared for life after high school.
