TELL CITY, In. (08/19/25) — Perry County, Indiana Sheriff Alan Malone announced in a Facebook post Tuesday he will step from his post effective October 1st. Malone cited the “political atmosphere, combined with personal reasons” in the decision after consulting with his wife and family. Malone has spent over 30 years in law enforcement and corrections in Indiana and Florida, the last ten as Perry County Sheriff.
Malone’s Facebook Post…
All good things come to an end!
After speaking with my wife and family, I have decided that after 30 years being law enforcement officer and 6 years with the Florida and Indiana Department of Corrections, it is time for me to retire. I have served as your Sheriff of Perry County for 10 years, and I could not be prouder of what we have accomplished.
I have always used the word “WE” because there is no way I could have done this alone. I have had an excellent staff that has helped me along the way, and to them I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Making this decision was not easy; the political atmosphere, combined with personal reasons, led me to believe that it would be in my best interest to retire.
To my supporters over the last 10 years, thank you for believing in me. I have always said, pick a party and once you’re elected, do the right thing for Perry County, not just for a party. I truly believe that is what I have done.
The friends I have met in this profession have been the most professional and passionate individuals, and I feel that, over the years, my passion for Law Enforcement has remained unchanged.
On or about October 1, 2025, will be the last day as your Sheriff at the Perry County Sheriff’s Office. I am confident the party will find a new Sheriff with new ideas, and I am excited to watch their success.
Thank You!
