
VANZANT (07/26/25) — Three people were killed in a head-on collision near the Breckinridge-Hancock County line Saturday afternoon. A Kentucky State Police investigation revealed that 48-year-old Joseph Maynard of Owensboro, was operating a Ford F-150 southbound on Kentucky 261 near Granny’s Lane when for unknown reasons the truck crossed the center line and struck a Chevrolet Silverado head-on, causing it and the Ford to become engulfed in flames. The driver of the Silverado, 22-year-old Hunter Lyons and a one-year-old juvenile passenger was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Breckinridge County Coroner’s Office. An adult female passenger in Lyons’ vehicle was flown to the University of Louisville Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Maynard was also pronounced deceased at the scene by the Breckinridge County Coroner’s Office. The Breckinridge County Sheriff’s Office, Breck Central EMS, Hardinsburg and Fordsville Fire Departments also responded to the scene. The accident remains under investigation.
