MIDWAY (05/21/25) — An accident involving a gasoline tanker near Midway in Meade County forced evacuation of nearly 60 homes for much of Wednesday. The tanker overturned near the intersection of 79 and Kentucky 261 with some fuel leaking from the tanker.

The homes within a half-mile radius were evacuated with electric power to the area shut off as a precaution while the fuel was off-loaded. Residents were able to get back into their homes just after 8 Eastern time last night. The driver of the tanker was taken to Louisville for treatment of injuries.
