LOUISVILLE (05/21/25) — The Justice Department moved Wednesday to cancel the settlement with Louisville that called for an overhaul of the police department following the shooting death of Breonna Taylor back in 2020. The move represents an about-face for a department that under then-President Joe Biden had aggressively pushed for federal oversight of police forces it accused of widespread abuses. Despite the announcement, Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg said the city will move forward with reforms directed under the prior consent decree.
