UNDATED (05/06/25) — New Federal requirements for Real ID’s use are to take effect today, but officials have offered a reprieve for those still trying to get the cards. Homeland Security Director Kristi Noem told a Congressional panel Tuesday that those who do not have the ID would still be able to fly, but may need to undergo an additional security step at airports. Starting today, Real ID’s are needed to fly domestically and access some Federal facilities, but the date prompted a run on licensing offices around the country, including Kentucky. A passport will also be accepted. Noem said about 80-percent of Americans do have the Real ID.
