5/18/2026—Magistrates approved the first reading of an ordinance establishing the budget for the 2026/27 Fiscal Year at the regular meeting of Breckinridge Fiscal Court Monday morning.  The total budget is $14,214,534.85.  It includes the following: General Fund-$7,021,789.21; Road Fund-$3,714,216.54; Jail Fund: $3,180,000.10; LGEA-$157,000; Federal Grants-$1,029.00; Opioid Settlement-$85,000.00; Special Clerk’s Fund-$40,500.00; Transient Room Tax Fund-$15,000.00.  Magistrates approved requests of $35,000.00 for the Chamber of Commerce and $20,000 for Tourism.

 

In other business, magistrates approved the second reading of the Animal Control Ordinance.

 

Magistrates approved hiring the following Pool Employees: Amelia Foran-Pool and Chemical Manager; Lifeguards-Peyton Kennedy, Maggie Carwile, Kaylee Laslie, Evie Masterson, Keilana Cargo, Josey Hoskins, and Amelia Foran.  Gatekeepers-Ethan Ball, Donald Gibson, Kaitlyn Carby, Kendall Carby, Brooklyn Ammons, Michael Sturgeon, Addison Sturgeon, Brady Turpin, Donna Smallwood, Kenley Armes, Abel Payne, Alyssa Taylor, Owen Hinton, Madilyn Adamson, Kaiden Dunn, and Olivia Phillips.

 

In a related matter, Magistrates approved a motion to waive the $150.00 rental fee for pool parties.  A lifeguard must be hired for each rental.

 

Mago Construction was awarded the bid to asphalt county roads.  The bid was accepted with no escalator clause.

 

The Court approved a resolution executing a County Road Aid Agreement with the Kentucky Department of Transportation.  The County will receive $1,619,335.08 to repair and maintain roads.  Judge Executive Maurice Lucas said this figure was less than last year.

 

The Court approved the Administrative Office of the Courts Reimbursement Form.  The County will receive $289,500.00.

 

The Sheriff’s 2025 Tax Settlement (pending audit) was approved.

 

Annual Standing Orders for the 2026/27 Fiscal Year were approved.

 

EMA Program funds for the 2025 Fiscal Year were approved.

 

A contract with Cintas for janitorial services at the Detention Center was approved.

 

Brad Hockenberry was appointed to the Board of Assessment Appeals panel.

 

The Sheriff’s Department received 1,008 calls for service in April.

The Detention Center population is 180.

 

The Court approved a motion to have the Road Viewing Committee inspect 0.3 miles of Blackberry Circle.

 

At the beginning of the meeting, Carol Tucker asked the Court to consider adding 0.6 miles of Pine Ridge Hill Lane to the County Maintenance system.  The Court approved a motion to have the Road Viewing Committee inspect the road.

 

Several residents asked the Court to help with repairing Hornback Farms Lane.  They said the road was impassable.  Fourth District Magistrate Albright asked the Court the consider amending the road ordinance to help the situation.  The County Attorney will research the matter.
