4/20/2026—The Cloverport City Council approved the first reading of an ordinance seeking application for a destination license at their regular meeting Monday evening. The license would allow adults to carry beer in a designated cup within a specific area during special events. The area is Main Street from Elm Street to Center Street. The designated area may be restricted at the request of sponsors of the special event.
In other business, the Council approved a motion to draft a nuisance ordinance dealing with inoperable cars and other junk items. A resident asked the council for assistance to remove trash at 409 4th Street. The property is owned by Carolyn Barr. The property has a trailer that is not tied down and is four feet from the sidewalk. In addition, there are several trucks, cars, mini vans as well as washers, a camper trailer, and a lawn mower on the property. The situation has been reported by Evansville media.
The Council approved a motion to purchase ten tons of cold patch at a cost of $1,610.00.
The Council discussed updating the dog license ordinance but took no action.
City Stickers will go on sale June 1.
The Sheriff’s Department received 43 calls for service in the Cloverport area in March. Robert French will graduate from the Police Academy on April 30.
The Fire Department made 12 runs in March.
Public Works Director Eddie Lee said workers are repairing several fire hydrants. The city has purchased four new 4-yard dumpsters.
Council member Jenny Bradley said the city needs to look at updating all existing ordinances.
