FRANKFORT (03/24/26) — Kentucky’s spring turkey hunting season will begin next month. The Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources is reporting higher-than-usual turkey brood surveys.
That, as well as summertime observations of young turkey poults hatched that year, signal healthy populations of turkeys in the Commonwealth this season.
A youth-only weekend is scheduled April 4-5 for hunters ages 15 or younger. The general season is set for April 18th through May 10th. Hunters can harvest two birds throughout the season, but only one per day, according to the department.
The youth turkey permit allows youth hunters to take one bird in either the spring or fall seasons. Officials also say only birds that are male or have a visible beard are legal to hunt.
