Breckinridge County Board of Education

3/9/2026—The Breckinridge County Board of Education approved the 2025/26 Capital Funds request at their regular meeting Monday afternoon.  The request totals $2,130,547.  Funds will be used for insurance on buildings and property; debt service payment for the energy bond; KISTA Bus Payment; technology equipment; and building repair and maintenance.

 

In other business, the Board approved a Memorandum agreement with Eastern Kentucky University.  The agreement provides professional laboratory experiences and student teacher experiences for the educational profession.

 

The Board approved a collaborative agreement with Three Corners Employment.  This will allow students to gain employability skills.

 

The Board approved authorization to submit the 2026/27 Head Start Refunding Application.  The amount requested is $1,654,139.  The federal portion is $1,323,311.

 

The Board approved Head Start selection criteria; self-assessment summary; community assessment; and training plan.

 

The revised 2025/26 Head Start calendar and the 2026/27 Head Start calendar were approved.

 

It was noted that Registration for Head Start and Kindergarten is scheduled for March 16-19.

 

Demolition has started on the site for the new Middle School.  The process of material procurement for the Area Technology Center Renovation Project has begun.

 

The Board approved the Food Service Summer Feed Program utilizing food service employees as needed.

 

The Board approved 85 Emergency Certified Substitute applications for the Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board for 2026/27.

 

The Board approved the purchase of a 5×7 photo for each BCHS graduate.

 

Rick Taylor was appointed as the Board’s representative to the Code of Acceptable Behavior and Discipline Handbook Committee.

 

The following retirements were noted: BCHS teachers Kim End and Marcus Whitley.
