3/2/2026—The Irvington City Council approved the second reading of five ordinances at their regular meeting Monday evening.
The first ordinance amends sections of the Business and Occupational License Tax Ordinance dealing with penalties and filing requirements.
The second ordinance establishes pay rates for the Mayor and City Council. The mayor will receive $2,000 per year; an increase from $1,500 per year. Each council member will receive $1,400 per year; an increase from $900 per year. The new pay rates take effect January 1, 2027.
The third ordinance clarifies the duties of the Health, Safety, and Welfare Officer.
The fourth ordinance amends payment procedures for water, sanitation and sewer bills.
The fifth ordinance sets a connection fee of $1,500 for water and $1,500 for sewer services.
In other business, the Council approved a list of streets that will be paved. They are: Johnson Street; North 5th between Union and Lake; Michelle Way; and East Caroline, from Highway 79 to 3rd Street.
The Council approved three new business licenses: Greg Hale LLC; Brooks Contracting LLC; and French Truck Repair.
The Council approved a motion to reject a bid of $1,000 for the Fire Department Brush Truck. They will attempt to sell the truck at an auction.
Mayor Charles Douglas Lucas read a proclamation declaring March 23, as Joy Hayse Day, in honor of her one hundredth birthday.
Bruce Basham questioned the council regarding a fine on his property. After some discussion, the Council approved a motion to dismiss all fines that were issued in February 2026. The reason was proper procedures were not followed in the issuance of the fines.
There will be an Easter Egg Hunt at Eva Carmen Park on March 28 from 12:00pm to 2:00pm EST.
The Fire Department will have a Spring Festival on May 23 from 8:00am to 5:00pm EST.
