
2/16/2026—Magistrates approved the first reading of an ordinance creating a Breckinridge County Tourism Commission at the regular meeting of Breckinridge Fiscal Court Monday morning. In a related matter, the Court approved the first reading of an ordinance imposing a 3% transient room tax to fund the Tourism Commission. The tax will be placed on rent for every occupancy of rooms, cabins, campsites, or other accommodations.
In other business, magistrates approved a resolution urging the Kentucky General Assembly to pass House Bill 557. The bill deals with reforms to address the growing financial burden of jail operations on county governments.
Magistrates approved a resolution with the Kentucky Transportation Department to repair a culvert on Richard Moore Road. The State will pay 80% of the cost, not to exceed $73,720.
Magistrates approved a resolution authorizing the County to serve as the grantee with the Kentucky Product Development Initiative Grant for the Irvington Industrial Park Project. The grant of $318,237 from KPDI will pay for sewer line extension and road improvements to the Industrial Park. Breck United has authorized a local match of $45,463 for the project.
The Court approved a bid of $27,000 by Three Crosses for debris removal. It was noted that the County still needs to develop a Debris Management Plan.
The Court approved the audit of the County Clerk’s Office for the Fiscal Year ending December 31, 2024.
Meredith Dubree asked the Court to continue to fund Breck United with $100,000 for the next fiscal year.
Chris Woosley, representing the McDaniels Volunteer Fire Department, asked the Court not to require the department to pay for one-half of an audit. The contract for the audit has been signed at a cost of approximately $12,000. Magistrates said they were in favor of transparency and took no action on the matter.
The Sheriff’s Department received 1,057 calls for service in January.
The inmate population at the Detention Center is 190.
The Road Department will begin long-arming and providing rock for several roads this week.
