FRANKFORT (02/06/26) — A bill authored by Leitchfield State Senator Steven Meredith dealing with trauma centers in Kentucky has been approved by the state Senate. The bill relaxes the standards for level four trauma centers aimed at expanding the trauma network across Kentucky. The main goal of a level four trauma center is to assist the patient, stabilize them and then transfer them. Meredith, the former CEO of Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center, says Kentucky is 45th nationally in trauma-related deaths. He says all 20 of level four trauma care facilities are in rural areas of Kentucky. The measure heads to the Kentucky House for consideration.
