ELIZABETHTOWN (02/03/26) — A hearing is scheduled in Elizabethtown for later in the month for a man accused of murdering two people in an E’town residence back in 2024 on a motion to be spared the death penalty as punishment. Dustin Caudill is accused of shooting two men back in October of 2024, then setting the house on fire. Defense attorneys argued this week that the death penalty should be taken off the table due to Caudill’s prior bipolar diagnosis. Caudill was diagnosed in 1996 while serving a sentence for the 1994 murders of his mother and younger brother in a residence near Midway while he was a teenager. Caudill was sentenced to 40 years in prison, but released in 2020 after serving 35.
