Breckinridge County Board of Education-Special Called Meeting

2/4/2026—The Breckinridge County Board of Education approved bids on the construction of a new Middle School and athletic fields at a Special Called Meeting Wednesday evening.  The total amount is $53,628,468.99.

 

The Board approved a bid of $1,648,777.00 from Insulated Roofing Contractors.  They also approved a bid by The Motz Group for synthetic turf for the new football field and the current softball field.  The cost of the football turf is $1,300,464 and the cost of the softball turf is $337,198.  These bid amounts are included in the total package of over 53 million dollars.

 

The Board hired Robert W. Baird and Co. as Financial Advisors on the project.  In a brief meeting of the Board of Directors of the Breckinridge County School District Finance Corporation, a resolution was approved to issue Series 2026 Revenue Bonds in the amount of $49,730,000.

 

The Board discussed traffic routing plans for the construction project, but no action was taken.

 

The project is expected to begin within five to six weeks.

 

Superintendent Dr. Nick Carter said this was a culmination of a five-year process.  He thanked everyone for their patience and help.

 

In other business, the Board approved a revised 2025/26 school calendar.  School will be in session February 13 and 16. May 19 is the last scheduled day for students.

 

The Board approved a five-year contract with Brandenburg Telecom LLC to provide 10 gig and 40 gig band width for all schools, the Board Office, and the Board Annex.

 

The Board approved a revised job description for the Food Service Director.

 

The Board approved a waiver request regarding the need for emergency showers or eye washes at the Science Labs in the new Middle School.  The waiver request states that the district does not permit Middle School students to use chemicals requiring showers or eye wash stations.
