CAMPTON (01/06/26) — An eastern Kentucky woman has been indicted on several charges related to her self-managed abortion, but the prosecutor dismissed the woman’s fetal homicide charge. 35-year-old Miranda Spencer of Campton in Wolfe County was arrested after reporting to health care providers she had taken medication to terminate the pregnancy, then buried the body. Commonwealth Attorney Miranda King cited a Kentucky statute that shields pregnant women from facing prosecution for causing the deaths of their unborn children. Spencer is still charged with abuse of a corpse and tampering with physical evidence. She also faces a misdemeanor charge of concealing the birth of an infant.
