
1/5/2026—The Irvington City Council heard the first reading of an ordinance stating the intent to annex land into city limits at their regular meeting Monday evening. The property is 80.47 acres on the northern side of US 60, adjacent to city limits. It is the proposed site of the future Industrial Park.
In other business, Police Officers James Goodman and Tyler Mitcham presented a proposed project to raise funds to purchase body armor that protects against high-powered rifles. The Department intends to buy six units which cost $2,800 each. Funds will be raised through donations at no cost to the city. The Council approved a motion to proceed with the endeavor.
Paul Reynolds, with Bluegrass Engineering, said a Variable Frequency Drive has been installed at the Booster Pump Station. This will allow the glass lined water tank to be taken down and repairs to the interior/exterior of the tank can be completed. Reynolds also said the water line extension project at the Industrial Park has been approved by the State Division of Water. Bids on the project will be advertised near the end of the month.
Police Chief Jason Ballman said the Department needs a new vehicle. He estimated the cost at approximately $47,000. The city has not budgeted funds for the purchase. No action was taken.
The Fire Department made 18 runs in December, and 290 runs for 2025. They have received a grant to purchase three thermal imaging cameras. Fire Chief Jeremy Hougland said his goal for the new year was to work on a new Fire Department building.
A resident asked the Council for help with inoperable car in her yard. She was referred to the Code Enforcement Board, which will meet January 21 at 6:00pm ET.
At the beginning of the meeting, Mayor Charles Douglas Lucas reflected on accomplishments in 2025. Among those mentioned are: new vehicles for the Maintenance Director, Fire and Police Departments; repair of the glass lined water tank; implementation of a business and occupational tax; playground equipment and wi-fi at Eva Carmen Park; and appointment of a Health, Safety and Welfare Officer.
