(UPDATE. 2pm) — One person was killed in an accident Monday afternoon near Axtel. Emergency personnel were called to near the four mile marker of Kentucky 79 around 5pm. Kentucky State Police said a Hyundai Sonata passenger car, operated by Justin Nance, 42, of Falls of Rough, crossed the center line and struck a Jeep Patriot SUV operated by Daniella Wright, 41, of Louisville, Kentucky, in a head-on manner. As a result of the collision, Justin Nance was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Breckinridge County Coroner’s Office. Daniella Wright and a passenger were transported to University of Louisville Hospital with serious injuries. This incident remains under investigation by KSP Post 4 reconstructionist Trooper Scott Wheatley.

AXTEL (12/29/25) — Emergency personnel were called to the scene of an accident along Kentucky Highway 79 near Axtel late Monday afternoon. The road between Kentucky Highways 259 and 1740 was closed for several hours for cleanup and investigation before reopened to traffic around 9:15 Monday night. Additional information had not been released by authorities as of Tuesday morning.
