Former Kentucky Governor Martha Layne Collins Dies At 88

FRANKFORT (11/01/25) — Former Kentucky Governor Martha Layne Collins died over the weekend at the age of 88. The only woman to serve as Governor, her tenure from 1983 to 1987 saw the creation of a financial incentive package that brought the Toyota plant to Georgetown. She was also credit with the effort s to reform public education in Kentucky. Collins also served as Lt. Governor from 1979 to 1983. Funeral arrangements had not been announced as of Sunday.
