OWENSBORO (09/16/25) — Officials in Daviess County are taking steps to improve safety along a stretch of the Owensboro Bypass where two people were killed in an accident two weeks ago. The Sheriff’s Office there has increased patrols along the stretch near the Kentucky 54 exit with a recent enforcement effort resulting in nearly 50 citations. On September 4th, an eastbound vehicle crossed the median and hit a westbound truck head-on, igniting a fire in the car. Two people in the car died, with the driver of the truck still hospitalized in serious condition. Local and state officials plan to meet in the coming days to discuss safety improvements to the road.
