Law Enforcement Effort To Raise Awareness For Railroad Crossing Safety

FRANKFORT (09/16/25) — Kentucky State Police are joining law enforcement and first responder agencies across the nation to participate in Operation Clear Track, the single largest rail safety initiative in the United States. This annual event is designed to reduce the number of railroad crossing and trespassing incidents through education and enforcement. They remind motorists to obey all warning signs, signals, and gates at train crossings and never cross train tracks where a safety light or gate is engaged. A release from the E’town post states more than 2,300 people are injured or killed in railroad crossing and trespass incidents across North America, with over 60% of collisions occurring at crossings equipped with lights and/or gates.
