GUSTON (08/26/25) — The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife says it has humanely euthanized 22 deer being kept at the Broadbent Wildlife Sanctuary in Meade County. The department said the animals were illegally being held at the sanctuary in violation of state regulations designed to prevent the spread of Chronic Wasting Disease. A surveillance zone was set up for Breckinridge, Meade and Hardin Counties last fall to monitor for the disease. The action was taken in conjunction with the new operators of the sanctuary. The department is asking others to not relocate fawns or other young wildlife from the wild in an effort to rescue them.
