FRANKFORT (08/25/25) — State Education officials are launching a new campaign raising awareness about the importance of school attendance. The campaign is called ‘You Belong. Attendance Matters.’ It will utilize signage on city buses, billboards, and streaming services. These advertisements feature messages about how students lose connection with their community and future by missing school. A student is defined as chronically absent if they miss ten percent or more of their time in school. The Kentucky Department of Education says chronic absenteeism nearly doubled after COVID. However, recent data indicates the problem is getting better.
