8/18/2025—The Cloverport City Council approved the first reading of an ordinance setting 2025 tax rates.  The real property tax rate is 31.1 cents per $100 valuation, and the tangible tax rate is 35.3 cents per $100 assessed valuation.

 

In other business, the Council approved a resolution accepting a $7.1 million Kentucky Infrastructure Authority Grant.  The money is for engineering fees and construction of a new wastewater treatment plant.

 

The Council approved a motion to hire an engineer to design a new water line on Old Gravel Pit Road.

 

The Council did not approve the current financial statement due to several discrepancies.

 

The city has sold 391 city stickers.  Citizens were informed that police will begin issuing citations for vehicles without a city sticker.

 

The Police Department received 29 calls for service in July.

 

The Fire Department received 23 calls for service in July.

 

Public Works Director Eddie Lee explained his duties to the Council.  He asked for a $1.25/hour raise for himself and his assistant.  The Council took no action.

 

The Code Enforcement Board sent 17 nuisance letters in July.  The Board asked the council to consider changes to ordinances dealing with high grass and noise violations.

 

New playground equipment will be installed in the play area across from City Hall on Main Street.

 

There will be Clean Up Day in the city on September 6 at 10:00am.  The group “Lend a Hand” is in charge of the event.
