8/4/2025—The Irvington City Council heard the first reading of an ordinance setting tax rates at their regular meeting Monday evening. The real and personal property tax rate is 40 cents per $100 assessed valuation. The motor vehicle rate is 32 cents per $100 valuation. A public hearing on the tax rates was held prior to the meeting, but no one spoke. The Council will hold the second reading of the tax ordinance at a Special Called Meeting on August 25 at 7 pm ET.

In other business, the Council approved a motion to eliminate city stickers, effective immediately. The Council hopes to enact a business and occupational tax to replace revenue generated by city stickers. Since October 2024, the city has sold 260 city stickers.

The Council heard a reading of an amended nuisance ordinance. The amended ordinance changes the period of enforcement from 30 to 15 days. The first reading will be held at the August Special Called Meeting.

The Council approved a motion to open an Opioid Settlement Funds Account. The city has received $6,712.11 in opioid settlement funds.

The Council approved a motion to allow the Mayor and City Clerk to reinvest the City’s CD after they reach their mature date.

The city is accepting applications for a Police Officer. Officer Josh Jackson has resigned.

The city is working on repairing leaks in the glass lined water tank. They hope to use remaining funds from the Lon Dowell Water Line Extension Project for repairs.

Bluegrass Engineering will send a letter of submittal to the Kentucky Division of Water. This will start the water and sewer line extension project at the US 60 Industrial Park.

The city has sold 67 business licenses since October 2024.

The city has received no bids for repairs of the cross at the Cedar Hill Cemetery.

The Fire Department made 23 runs in July. Catelyn Burden has received her EMT certification. The city will not purchase the Frymire Property. It had intended to build a new fire house at that location.

Health, Safety, and Welfare Officer Kristie Taul said the city has addressed 88 nuisance violations. 43 cases have been settled, and 45 cases are open.

William Ditto said construction of playground equipment at Eva Carmen Park has begun. There will be a Mary Ann Tobin Memorial Labor Day Picnic at the Park on August 30, beginning at 5:00pm CST. It will be hosted by the Breckinridge County Democratic Party.
