
STEPHENSPORT (07/25/25) — Friends of the Holt Home and the Holt Mansion and Grounds held a celebration to mark the 250th birthday of the Army’s Judge Advocate General (JAG) Corps, which is responsible for administering for legal matters within the Service as well as prosecution on court martial cases.

Members of the JAG Corps based on Fort Knox were guests as part of Friday’s Birthday event at the mansion and grounds near Stephensport.
Breckinridge County native Joseph Holt, served as Judge Advocate General for Presidents Lincoln and Johnson and presided over the 1865 trial of the co-conspirators in the plot to assassinate Lincoln and other top officials.
One of Holt’s later successors, Retired Lt. General Dana Chipman, first visited the grounds 12 years ago when renovation efforts were beginning…
Chipman paid tribute to the members of the Corps based at Fort Knox for their efforts and service.
After opening ceremonies and cutting of the birthday cake, those attending had the chance to learn more about the Holt, the JAG Corps history and the mansion and grounds near Stephensport that Holt called home.

Dyer told WXBC’s Lee Bramlett work continues to make the home a national meeting place for all the Army JAGS across the nation. The Home now has local, state, and national new re-uses.
The Friends of the Holt House coordinates fund-raising efforts and events for the property.
