
6/9/2025—The Breckinridge County Board of Education approved a four-year contract with Superintendent Dr. Nick Carter at their regular meeting Monday afternoon. The contract stipulates an annual salary of $149,681.00. In a related matter, the Board approved the evaluation of Dr. Carter for Human Resource and Managerial Leadership. The Board said Dr. Carter uses resources to “focus on recruitment and retention…He is exemplary in districtwide communication, conflict resolution and emergency planning”.
The Board approved a resolution to seek the purchase of property adjoining the current BCHS/BCMS campus. It is owned by Mylynn Farms, LLC. The resolution authorizes Kevin Coomes, Chief Information Officer, to begin the process of inspection, site evaluation, and purchase of the property. It also authorizes the Board Chairman and Superintendent to accept the purchase offer, contingent on regulatory approval.
In other business, Codell Construction was approved as the Construction Manager for the Middle School project, and Sherman, Carter, Barnhart Architects were approved for architectural services. Construction documents on the project will be ready by the July Board meeting.
The Board approved the initial application form for the Area Technology Center renovation project. The project includes roof replacement; security vestibule and camera upgrades; and classroom renovations. The estimated cost is $1,041,634.04.
The Board approved a sign-on bonus for bus drivers for the 2025/26 school year. Drivers will receive $200.00 upon passing the certification process; $200.00 after actively working/driving 30 calendar days; and $200.00 after actively working/driving 60 calendar days.
The Certified Evaluation Plan for 2025/26 was approved. There was no change for non-tenured teachers. Tenured teachers will be evaluated during a five-year cycle. The previous cycle was three years.
The Board approved the 2025/26 District Code of Acceptable Behavior and Discipline Handbook.
The Board approved a new Head Start/Preschool Coordinator position.
The Boad approved the expulsion of two BCMS students for a minimum of 36 weeks for violation of the Student Code of Conduct.
A field trip by ACTC students to Indianapolis was approved.
The Board approved the 2025/26 Technology Plan.
The Board approved performance bonds as required.
The Board approved the Spring 2025 Comprehensive District Improvement Plan Implementation and Impact Check.
Dr. Michael Broadbent presented the Spring 2025 Academic Update. The ACT composite score for the Class of 2025 is 18.23. MAP scores showed that 63% of the students in the district are on grade level in reading, and 60% are on grade level in math. 80% of 4-year-old students are Kindergarten ready.
The Board heard year-end reports by Irvington Elementary Principal Jasmyn Reynolds and Ben Johnson Principal Ricky Dudgeon.
Bill Adams presented a report on Studer Education. He reported on coaching sessions during the second year of their contract.
