BRANDENBURG (06/04/25) — The body of a woman found behind a Brandenburg area home last month has been identified. The remains were found in a field off Old State Road back on May 10th and were taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for identification. Those remains were identified this week as Crystal Smalarz, a resident of the Maple Grove Apartments in Brandenburg. Brandenburg Police did confirm the woman as the open missing person case they had been working on. The cause of death was not immediately determined but foul play is not suspected. Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the Brandenburg Police Department.
