Emergency Crews Respond to Overturned Semi

An Indiana man was killed after a single-vehicle accident near the intersection of KY-144 and Cart Manning Crossing Road in Breckinridge County.
According to Kentucky State Police,
the preliminary investigation revealed that Michael Robert Tropp, 44, of Jasper, IN, was operating a commercial tractor-trailer southbound on KY-144 when the passenger side tire left the roadway, causing the semi to exit the roadway down an embankment before striking a tree. Tropp was pronounced dead at the scene by the Breckinridge Co. Coroner’s Office.

The affected portion of KY-144 was closed for several hours to allow troopers to reconstruct the collision. Kentucky State Police was assisted at the scene by the Breckinridge County Sheriff’s Office, Breckinridge Central EMS, Hardinsburg, Payneville, Webster, and Rhodelia Fire Departments, and Meade County Emergency Management. The accident remains under investigation.

Initial Report: Emergency crews were called to the scene of an overturned semi truck around 1:45 PM Thursday (5/29) in the 15,000 block of East Highway 144 near Old Shiloh Road.

Upon initial reports, the driver was trapped in the cab of the truck as it was leaking diesel fuel. Fire crews from Hardinsburg and Payneville worked to extricate the driver but he died from his injuries at the scene according to the Breckinridge County Coroner. The roadway was closed several hours as crews reconstructed the accident and cleaned up the scene. No other details were immediately available.

The accident is being investigated by Kentucky State Police.
