FRANKFORT (05/14/25) — An ethics complaint stemming from Daniel Cameron’s 2023 run for Kentucky governor has resurfaced as the former state attorney general campaigns to succeed  outgoing U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell in next year’s  election.

The state’s Executive Branch Ethics Commission on Wednesday took another step in its investigation into whether Cameron committed an ethics violation by allegedly soliciting certain campaign donations for his 2023 run for governor. An administrative law judge will be assigned to review the case and make a recommendation to commission members, who would decide whether a violation occurred.

The complaint was filed by the Kentucky AFL-CIO, alleging the Republican  may have improperly used his position for his own political gain by soliciting campaign donations from executives of a substance abuse treatment organization that was under scrutiny by the attorney general’s office.

Cameron dismissed the action as “political persecution”, saying he recused from the case and returned donations when he became aware of the issue.
