Hardinsburg City Council

5/13/2025—The Hardinsburg City Council approved the first reading of an ordinance amending the budget for the current Fiscal Year at their regular meeting Tuesday evening.  The amended budget is $9,852,972.  They also approved the first reading of an ordinance adopting the budget for the 25/26 Fiscal Year of $8,541,753.  The second reading of both ordinances will be held at the June council meeting.

 

In other business, the Council approved the annual contract with Veolia Water.  The new contract of $1,834,768.27 reflects a 3.5% increase over the current contract.

 

The Council approved a resolution agreement with the Kentucky Department of Transportation.  The city will receive $55,755.00 to repair city streets.

 

The Council accepted a bid of $85,000 by Jerry Martin for a 2008 Rescue Truck.  The truck was declared as surplus property at last month’s meeting.

 

The Council discussed purchasing two LED Crosswalk signs as well as a flashing speed limit sign but took no action.  The crosswalk signs would be located on Old Highway 60 near Bank Street and across from Walmart.

 

The Police Department received 268 calls for service in April.  They worked six thefts and six drug and alcohol related offenses.  They made two felony and six misdemeanor arrests.  They issued 12 city citations and worked three injury and six non-injury accidents.  Adam Lucas and Craig Ball attended a five-day active shooter threat course.

 

The Council approved a motion to surplus a 2018 Ford Explorer Police Interceptor.  Chief Terry Laslie said he will purchase a doghouse kennel for $2,500.00.  He said over $4,000 in donations have been raised for the K-9 project.  There will be a Project K-9 cruise-in May 17 from 4:00 to 8:00pm on Main Street.  Laslie said no city funds have been used for the K-9 project to date.

 

The Fire Department made 63 runs in April.  The department responded with five trucks and 14 firefighters to the Irvington Apartment fire on April 9.  The Battle of the Badges raised approximately $10,000.  Crusade for Children road blocks will be held on Memorial Day weekend and June 7 and 8.

 

Austin Weedman said the city issued three building permits in April.  The Code Enforcement Board resolved four cases and two cases are ongoing.  Weedman said citizens may get nuisance complaint forms at City Hall or on the city’s website.

 

Several residents addressed the Council concerning expansion and improvements of the city park.  City Clerk Dave Bollinger said construction on the new park located on the site of the old Galante Studio building should begin in the Fall.  He said citizens are encouraged to assist in obtaining funds for park improvements.

 

Before adjourning, Mayor Wayne Macy said flooding issues have occurred at the Woodridge Subdivision.  He said several ditches need to be cleared.
