5/12/2025—The Breckinridge County Board of Education approved certified, classified and extra-service salary schedules at their regular meeting Monday afternoon.  All classified and certified staff will receive a 3% raise.  Food Service Workers will receive an additional $1.00 per hour.

 

In a related matter, the Board approved the 2025/26 tentative budget.  The General Fund budget is approximately $30.2 million, and the total budget is $43,582,698.12.  Chief Financial Officer Brandon Hayes said the per pupil expenditure will increase to $4,586.00, up from $4,326.00 this year.  He also said the district will receive an increase of $219,000 in transportation funding.  He said the projected enrollment will increase by 19 students next year.  The current enrollment is 2512.

 

The Board also approved the 2025/26 school budgets.

 

Emma Martin presented the District Transition Readiness Report.  She said 49.8% of BCHS Seniors were involved with Work Based Learning with over 30 businesses.  38% of the class completed at least one dual credit course.  She said 96.2% of the senior class is Post-Secondary Ready.

 

The Board approved the 2025/26 District Professional Development Plan.

 

The Board heard an update on the Middle School construction project.  Groundbreaking is expected to be around October 1.

 

The Board approved a waiver request to grant the Board the ability to employ a construction manager for the Area Technology Center Renovation Project.

 

Patrick and Associates was approved for audit services for the 2024/25 school year at a cost of $29,500.00.

 

The Board approved the 2026 Fiscal Year Family Resource Youth Service Center contract of $329,454.68.

 

The Board approved a contract with Fiscal Court to provide parochial school student transportation for the 2025/26 school year.

 

The Board approved a shortened school week/day for a specified student.

 

The Board approved an out of state field trip for the BCHS Band in April, 2026 to Orlando, Florida.

 

The Board approved applying for a Kentucky Agriculture Development Fund Grant.

 

The Board approved the 2025/26 and 2026/27 Pledge of Collateral Agreement for Public School Funds.

 

At the beginning of the meeting, HES Principal Jeremy Stone and Custer Principal Renee Wright presented progress reports on their respective schools.

 

In personnel matters, the following retirements were noted: BCHS Teacher Rob DeHaven and Ben Johnson Teacher Tia Smith.

 

Superintendent Dr. Nick Carter said BCHS seniors received over $70,000 in scholarship funds from local organizations.

 

Before adjourning, Breckinridge County Education Association President Melody Mingus presented a chart stating teacher salaries have increased by 18% since 2017.  Inflation has increased by 29.9% for the same period.  Mingus asked the Board to consider bringing wages back to the buying power they had in 2017 over the next five years.

 

The Board scheduled a Special Called Meeting for June 25 at 5:30pm to close out the fiscal year.
