
FLORENCE (04/29/25) — Kentucky State Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Boone County on Tuesday morning that led to the death of an Ohio man. The Florence Police Department was conducting a stop in connection to a stolen semi when 35-year-old Michael Simpson got into an altercation with officers, later brandishing a gun and pointing it at his head. At a later point, one of the officers fired his weapon, striking Simpson who died later at an area hospital. One Florence police officer was injured during the initial altercation.
