(UPDATE, 2:30pm, 01/06) — Breckinridge County Schools have cancelled classes for both Tuesday (01/06) and Wednesday (01/08) in response to the weekend storm. Tuesday will be NTI Day #3 for students, with Wednesday a traditional snow day, which will be made up at the end of the school year. Cloverport Schools will also use an NTI Day on Tuesday. You can find the link to the latest closing/delay information back on the home page.
Road crews took advantage of snowfall ending Monday to push off slush and treat roads. State Highway officials were hopeful some afternoon drying will take place, but with temperatures well into teen territory overnight, icy spots will be possible on all routes into Tuesday morning. They urge motorists to slow down and allow extra travel time. Road conditions can change quickly over a short distance and drivers can hit a slick spot with little or no advance recognition and no time to properly react.
The other lingering issue from the storm are downed trees, limbs and powerlines. At one point, Meade County RECC was reporting some 3,000 customers without power. The number had been trimmed to 1,200- most of those in Meade County. The Breckinridge County Courthouse on the square will remain open as a warming center if needed. Anyone in need of transportation to the center can reach out to Breckinridge County Dispatch.
