Hurricane Remnants Bring Rain, Wind To Area

UNDATED (09/27/24) — Hurricane Helene made landfall in the Florida Panhandle late Thursday night and quickly exited to the north into Georgia, bringing hurricane-force winds to near Atlanta as it moved northward.

Remnants of the storm are forecast to move into Kentucky on Friday. A “Wind Advisory” and “Flood Watch” are in effect for the area through tomorrow. The National Weather Service in Louisville forecasts widespread rainfall between 3 and 6 inches and wind gusts as high as 50 mph will be possible with the highest gust across north central Kentucky and southern Indiana.

 

 

The forecast prompting a number of events to be rescheduled or canceled. The Breckinridge County-John Hardin high school football game was played Thursday, a day ahead of schedule along with other games in the region. Schools in the Louisville area and southern Indiana cancelled their classes for Friday.

*- Hardinsburg Elementary School Fall Festival for Friday has been rescheduled to Thursday, October 3rd.

*- Holt Home Community Day scheduled for Saturday.

The forecast calls for rain chances to linger into Monday night.
