
UPDATE (09/19/24) — Breckinridge County School Superintendent Dr. Nick Carter said Wednesday that local law enforcement and the FBI are investigating the Snap Chat post that forced the cancellation of classes in the District on Thursday. Meanwhile, district staff and officials use the off-day to review safety protocols to be ready when students return to school. As to when, Carter said classes will resume and when determine that they can be done in a safe and secure manner.
The Breckinridge County incident is the latest to have occurred across Kentucky school district in the past week and a half, with threat incidents also reported in Hardin and Grayson Counties last week. Carter said the FBI told him they have investigated some 80 incidents across the state in the last couple of weeks.

HARDINSBURG (09/18/24) — Breckinridge County Schools will be closed on Thursday (09/19) as a precaution following a threat made against the district on social media. Carter said the Wednesday evening the district was alerted earlier in the day to a threatening SnapChat post. In response, the district effected a “soft lockdown” of schools with students remaining in the facilities or under surveillance of school personnel and or law enforcement, who stepped up a presence at the schools Wednesday afternoon. After-school activities for Wednesday were canceled and Parent-Teacher Conferences at the High School were called off. Carter encourages anyone with any information about this situation to report it directly or anonymously on the District’s STOP Tipline. The STOP Tipline is located at the bottom of the District’s website.
