9/3/2024—The Irvington City Council heard a report on several projects from Paul Reynolds, with Bluegrass Engineering, at their regular meeting Tuesday evening. Reynolds said G and W Construction has installed all water lines on the Lon Dowell Road Water Line Extension Project. They still need to perform sample tests and pressure test the lines. The Council approved a payment of $271,209.45 to G and W Construction and $30,175.00 to Bluegrass Engineering.
Currens Construction has repaired and cleaned the water tank. A payment of $11,690.00 was approved. City Maintenance Director Chris Lucas said the water tower on Sinking Creek Hill will also have to be inspected and cleaned.
Reynolds said he has met with officials from Breck United regarding estimates for water and sewer service to a proposed Industrial Site on US 60.
In other business, the Council discussed water salesman rates. The current charge is $15.00 per 2,000 gallons. The Council approved a motion to make no changes to the current rate.
Chris Lucas said the top priority for city street repairs is Johnson Street and Third Street toward the railroad tracks. He said his staff repaired five water leaks in August.
City Clerk Sherrie Lawson gave each council person a copy of the city’s responsibility on medical cannabis as well as possible changes to the personnel policy regarding medical cannabis.
The city has sold 260 city stickers to date.
The Council approved new business licenses for Doc’s River Dogs and Rick’s Excavating.
The Council approved a motion to move two picnic tables to Vance Simmons Park.
Councilman Donald Board said a streetlight needs to be repaired at the corner of Maple and Center Street.
Ted Brown addressed the Council. He said he was opposed to installing speed humps because they slow emergency vehicles. The Council took no action.
The Council said the annual Christmas Parade is scheduled for November 23rd. Applications are available at City Hall.
Robert Young III served as acting mayor in the absence of Charles Douglas Lucas. Also, councilwomen Rhea Ballman and Karen Kinnison did not attend the meeting.
