(5am Mon) UNDATED (04/08/24) – Welcome to Eclipse Day: a total solar eclipse is scheduled for parts of western Kentucky and southern Indiana this afternoon. The eclipse will begin around 12:45 this afternoon, reach totality or maximum coverage around 2, then end around 3:20.

Here in Breckinridge County, about 99% coverage is expected (98.5 % around Rough River Lake; 99.5 near the Ohio River); Maxx Haehn of Western Kentucky University’s Hardin Planetarium what people can expect with a 99-percent eclipse…

Haehn joins others in reminding people not to look into the eclipse with the naked eye, using the special glasses. Also, don’t attempt to take a pic with cameras or cell phones using a lens filter or using the lens of the glasses to cover the camera lens.

The closest points of totality would be across northern and western sections of rural Perry County, Indiana (for less than a minute), back into Spencer County, just across the Natcher Bridge near Maceo. Longer durations can be found at points and north and west of there. Areas around Evansville and Henderson are expected to see totality between two-and-a-half and three minutes.
