MULDRAUGH (12/04/23) — Kentucky State Police are investigating a fatal accident that happened around 11 PM ET Monday (12/4) night at the intersection of US 31W and Kentucky 1638 in Muldraugh. A Ford Focus driven by 18 year-old Kristen Cottrell of Guston was traveling south on US 31W, when he ran the red light at the Old Mill Road intersection and struck a Ford Econoline van being operated by Denise Thompson, 52, of Brandenburg, head-on in the northbound turning lane. Cottrell was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Meade County Coroner. Thompson was flown to the University of Louisville Hospital with life-threatening injuries. The roadway was closed several hours as the scene was investigated.
