HARNED (05/27/22) –Five athletes from Breckinridge County will be representing Breckinridge County in the KHSAA State Track Championship Meet on Friday, June 3, 2022. The meet will be held at the University of Kentucky Outdoor Track Facility.

This is the first year Breckinridge County High School has had a track team. Lead by Coach Alex Lovell, the Boys and Girls track teams competed in over thirteen events this year culminating with the Class AA Region 2 Meet held at Warren East High School on Tuesday, May 24th.

In the regional meet, both the boys and girls track teams competed against sixteen other schools for the opportunity to go the State Championship. To go to the State, participants must finish either first or second in the Regional Meet or be one of the top ten qualifiers not finishing 1st or 2nd in the regional meets compared to all participants in the seven other Class AA regions across the State.

The Lady Tiger 4X400 relay team finished 1st in the region with a time just over 4:20. This team is represented by Elizabeth Grimes, Natalie Henning, Tracey Denson and Isabel Grimes. Given their time at the regional meet, they will be seeded 8th in Class AA entering the State Meet.

Isabel Grimes will represent Breckinridge County in three events at the State Meet as she won the regional title in the Individual 400 Meter race with a time of 59.52, the girls 800 meter with a time of 2:27, and was also a member of the girls 4X400 team. She will be seeded fourth in the 400 meter and ninth in the 800.

Henning received a qualifying bid for the State Meet in both the Long Jump (15’7.5”) and Triple Jump (33’1.75”). She will be seeded 15th in the Long Jump and 11th in the Triple Jump entering the State Competition. Natalie’s results are extraordinary because Breckinridge County does not have a pit to practice the long and triple jump and Natalie used the various track meets as a time to practice these events. Ava Phillips will represent BCHS in the women’s discus as a qualifier. Her best throw of the Regional Event was 85’6” which means she will be seeded 18th entering the State Discus competition.
