Former NFL Coach Buddy Ryan Dies

UNDATED (AP) — Former NFL head coach and defensive coordinator Buddy Ryan has died at age 82.

His death was confirmed by the Buffalo Bills, who are coached by son Rex Ryan. The agent for the former Eagles and Cardinals head coach did not give a cause of death.

The always outspoken Ryan was a linebackers coach for the 1968 New York Jets and coordinated the ground-breaking 46 defense for the ’85 Chicago Bears, one of the NFL’s greatest defenses. Both of those teams won the Super Bowl, but he was 0-3 in playoff games as a head coach.
