3/12/2024—The Hardinsburg City Council approved the first reading of an ordinance increasing wholesale water rates for the cities of Cloverport and Irvington at their regular meeting Tuesday evening.  The new rate for Cloverport is $2.30 per thousand gallons, and the new rate for Irvington is $2.57 per thousand gallons.  The old rates were $2.14 for Cloverport, and $2.35 for Irvington.  Mayor Wayne Macy said this was the first rate increase since 2007.  The vote was 4-0.  Councilmembers Susan Shelman and Jerry Dubree did not attend the meeting.

In other business, the Council approved the first reading of an ordinance rezoning property at 148 Docile Drive from R-1(Residential) to R-3(Multi-Family).  A public hearing on the matter will be held April 9 at 4:30 at City Hall.

The Council approved the second reading of an ordinance amending the Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance.  The amended ordinance establishes a basis for  flood zone hazard areas and designates the mayor or his designee to administer the provisions of the ordinance.

Veolia Project Manager Brett Mingus updated the Council on several projects.  He said the Highway 333 waterline extension project is slowing down-from approximately 100 feet of line per day to 20 feet per day due to rock and problems at Dents Bridge.  Mingus said 100 people attended the first Town Hall meeting regarding new water line extensions, and about 30 people were at the second and third meeting.  Ninety people have signed up requesting water.

Mingus said approximately $500,000 in remaining funds on the Highway 333 project will be used to extend water lines to MH Dowell Road, which is off Highway 333.  He said Old Highway 60 will be repaired in phases.  He is getting prices on a new garbage truck.  He said trash is being dumped on Docile Drive.  Finally, he said water loss at the plant in February was 1.91%-a new low.

The Police Department received 176 911 calls in February.  They worked four thefts; made five felony and four misdemeanor arrests; worked five drug and alcohol cases; issued 13 citations; and worked two injury and five non-injury accidents.  All officers have completed classes for the OSHA audit.  A daylight firearms training will be held on April 11.  The Council discussed the intersection of Highway 60 and KY 261.  It has been the sight of several collisions.

The Fire Department made 33 runs in February.  Officers attended the Green River Officers School in February.  Jason Thomas has completed his Fire Inspector 2 course.  Chief Nathan Smith reminded everyone that Spring Fire Season lasts until April 30.  There should be no burning between 6:00am and 6:00pm.

John Austin asked the Council about the removal of a siren near Ellen’s Beauty Shop.  He said it was hard to hear sirens during the recent Tornado Drill.  The siren was removed in 1999 during the widening of Old Highway 90.  City Clerk David Bollinger said he would look in to replacing the siren.

The Council discussed a nuisance issue at the end of West 1st Street, and several new trailers along Sunset and Morning Drives.  They said Williams Way, off Chambliss Drive, is in bad shape.
