Breckinridge County Board of Education-Special Called Meeting

4/17/2024—The Breckinridge County Board of Education approved a Head Start Expansion Grant at a Special Called meeting Wednesday evening.  The grant would provide funding to expand Head Start by one classroom in each school in the district.  This would allow an additional 80 students to be in the program.

 

In other business, the Board approved paperwork and construction documents for the Custer School Security Vestibule and Sign project.  The estimated cost of the project is $163,541.00.  Bids are expected to be opened at the May meeting.

 

The Board approved an Option 9 Partnership Program agreement with Campbellsville University.  The program supports instructional assistants who are seeking teacher certification.

 

Patrick and Associates were approved to conduct the 2023/24 school year audit for $27,500.

 

The Board approved final Site Based Decision Making Council allocations.  Based on projected enrollment decline from 2,561 students to 2,519 students, the district will be losing one certified staff position.  Classified staff will remain the same.  The total of district staff is 427.

 

The Board approved the amended calendar for the current school year.  The last day for students is May 21.

 

The Clark Beverage Group, serving Coke products, was awarded the beverage bid for 2024-2026.

 

The resignation of Board member Cathryn Taylor Dowell was accepted, effective April 10.

 

The Board approved nine out-of-state field trips.

 

The Board heard progress reports from Day Treatment Center Director Erica Hayes, and BRAVE Academy Director Emma Martin.

 

In personnel matters, the retirements of BCMS Teacher Terry Childs and Maintenance Worker Dennis Anthony were noted.

 

At the beginning of the meeting, BCHS HOSA students presented their projects.  Delaney Harned spoke on “The Healthy Way Initiative Smile Project” and Avery Hinton and Kenley Rhodes spoke on “Optometry as a Health Career”.
